Debra A. Hill, MD, the Scuba Shrink, is a doctor who does two kinds of diving–into the mind and into the Sea. As a Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst, and Scuba Instructor she has experienced all kinds of depths. Dr. Hill’s life is like Extreme Nature meets Jacques Cousteau. Along with her husband, a rocket scientist at Boeing, she has been cave diving in tight claustrophobic tunnels, explored WWII shipwrecks beneath Bikini Atoll (early test site of atomic bombs), snorkeled with whale sharks off Belize, and kayaked through the mangroves of Kosrae in Micronesia to view the giant monitor lizards. Move over Dr. Phil because here comes, Dr.Hill, an adventure woman who embraces going below the surface of the sea and the surface of the mind. She believes if we let ourselves see what we normally don’t see—those things below the surface that are typically out of view, we can then understand the root of problems, eliminate those roots and solve the problems.
Dr. Hill’s desire is for her Productions to inspire in viewers a passion for experiencing our Ocean, its mysteries, beauty, and it’s powerful impact on our daily lives. Dr. Hill believes that if we can overcome our fears of the unknown, we can make positive changes in our selves and our planet. Our Oceans heal us, feed us, and protect us. Healthy Oceans make for Healthy Humans. Dr. Hill’s Productions take the viewer into the underwater world through the experience of the Scuba Diver to see what they see, where they go, why they do it, and how far they’ll go before turning back. Through the eyes of the scuba diver we can get to know what is going on beneath the surface of the sea. The Ocean is so much more than a sunset.
Dr. Hill has worked with the LA County Sheriff Search and Recovery Dive Team to help Sheriffs tracks down criminals and do search-and-rescue/recovery missions. She is also on the Duke University’s Divers Alert Network (DAN) referral list as a Psychiatrist who helps individuals traumatized by diving accidents.
Dr. Hill, Executive Producer of Oceanvideo Productions: DIVE IN TV SERIES has written, directed, produced, and hosted several underwater productions for DVD, and most recently has shown her Oceans Alive: Marine Life of Catalina Island Production at the Aquarium of the Pacific Honda Theater in Long Beach, California, and at the Cabrillo Aquarium in San Pedro, California. Her DVD’s are well known throughout the Diving world and the internet.
She Produces two DVD Series: The Oceans Alive DVD Series-an interactive Fish Identification DVD, and Clam Chowder for the Scuba Diver’s Soul: Real Stories as told by Real Divers, a DVD Series of short stories edited Blind Date Style with a hint of Monty Python and Prairie Home Companion.
